DES MOINES, Iowa — Nigeria’s "Shot Put King," Chukwuebuka Enekwechi, has officially ignited his 2026 outdoor campaign with a powerhouse performance at the prestigious Drake Relays. Competing at the historic Drake Stadium, the African record holder delivered a world-class series to secure second place in the men's Shot Put final.
Enekwechi, who has become a symbol of consistency on the global stage, produced a best mark of 21.74 meters. Even more impressive was his stability throughout the event; the two-time Olympic finalist recorded five throws over the 21-meter mark, proving that his offseason training is paying massive dividends.
The competition was a heavyweight battle from start to finish. American star Roger Steen took the top spot with a throw of 21.93 meters, but Enekwechi’s performance signals that he is currently among the most dangerous throwers in the world as the 2026 season heats up.
