Injury Concern for Francis Uzoho: Super Eagles Goalkeeper Misses Omonia’s First Post-International Break Game

Francis Uzoho was notably absent from Omonia Nicosia’s matchday squad for their Cypriot First Division clash against close rivals Pafos FC, raising fresh concerns about the Super Eagles goalkeeper’s fitness.

The 27-year-old picked up an injury during Nigeria’s international friendly against Jordan last Tuesday (31 March 2026). He went down in pain after a clearance, with his body language suggesting a possible hamstring or thigh issue. Super Eagles coach Eric Chelle did not provide any update on the severity of the injury after the match.

Uzoho had been in strong form for Omonia before the international break, starting the club’s last five games. His absence against Pafos was the first time he missed a league fixture in that run.

Omonia coach Henning Berg also made no mention of Uzoho during the post-match press conference following their 2-0 win over Pafos. As of now, it remains unconfirmed whether the injury is serious or just a minor knock that requires rest.

What This Means

Omonia will now have to rely on their backup goalkeepers in the crucial phase of the season. For the Super Eagles, Uzoho’s fitness is a concern ahead of upcoming 2026 World Cup qualifiers and other international commitments.

More updates on the exact nature and expected recovery time of the injury are expected in the coming days from either Omonia or the Nigeria Football Federation.

Get well soon, Francis! We hope it’s nothing serious. What do you think — minor knock or something that could sideline him for a few weeks? Drop your thoughts below!
