At 42 years old, Siebert has been rewarded with the most prestigious assignment in European club football. While he has been an international referee since 2015 and featured in major tournaments like Euro 2024, this will mark the first time he oversees a major UEFA club competition final.
The appointment has sparked significant conversation among fans due to Siebert’s extensive history with Arsenal during their current European campaign. This final will be the third consecutive knockout round in which he has officiated a Gunners match. He was the man in the middle for Arsenal’s 1-0 victory away at Sporting CP in the quarter-final first leg and most recently handled their semi-final second leg triumph over Atletico Madrid.
PSG also have previous experience with the German official this term. Siebert was in charge of the French champions’ 0-0 draw against Athletic Bilbao during the league phase of the competition.
Siebert has been remarkably active this season, with the final set to be his 10th Champions League appearance of the year. Known for maintaining a steady hand, he has issued only two red cards and awarded a single penalty across his nine previous matches in the competition this season.
He will be supported by an all-German primary team, including assistants Jan Seidel and Rafael Foltyn. The Video Assistant Referee (VAR) duties will be handled by Bastian Dankert, with further support from Robert Schroder and Spanish official Carlos Del Cerro Grande. Swiss referee Sandro Scharer will serve as the fourth official.
As Arsenal look to secure their first ever Champions League trophy and PSG aim to defend their 2025 title, all eyes will be on Siebert to ensure the biggest game in world club football is managed with total precision.
