CAIRO, EGYPT — The Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) women’s volleyball team has sent a clear message to the rest of the continent: they are here for the gold. In a ruthless display of power and precision, the "Customs Ladies" secured their second consecutive victory at the 2026 African Women’s Club Volleyball Championship on Tuesday, April 14.
The Nigerian giants dismantled VLA of the Democratic Republic of Congo in straight sets (25-13, 25-13, 26-24), maintaining their flawless start to the tournament being held at the Al Ahly Sports Club Complex.
A Tactical Masterclass in Cairo
From the first serve, the Customs side looked unstoppable. They raced through the first two sets with identical 25-13 scorelines, leaving the Congolese side struggling to find answers for their aggressive blocking and pinpoint spikes.
The third set proved to be a closer contest as VLA fought desperately to stay in the match, pushing the Nigerians to a deuce. However, the experience and composure of the Customs squad shone through, as they closed out the set 26-24 to seal the win and claim all three points.
Unbeaten Run: Road to the Knockouts
This victory follows a hard-fought opening-day triumph on Monday, where Customs overcame Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA) of Uganda 3-1. After dropping the first set in that encounter, the Nigerian representatives rallied back with three straight set wins to start their Group C campaign on a high note.
Current Group C Standings (As of April 14):
* Nigeria Customs Service: 2 Wins, 0 Losses (6 Points)
* Status: Firmly in control of Group C, alongside heavyweights like Tunisia’s C.F. Carthage and Kenya’s DCI.
Coach Suleiman Ajeigbe’s Vision
Before departing for Cairo, Head Coach Suleiman Ajeigbe was vocal about the team's ambitions. Having prepared rigorously in Abuja, the team is aiming to surpass previous continental performances.
"We are not in Cairo just to participate; we are here to fight for the trophy," Ajeigbe stated. "The discipline and focus shown by the girls today against VLA is exactly what we need to go all the way."
The Road Ahead
The championship, which runs from April 11 to 24, features 24 of Africa's elite clubs all vying for a single ticket to the FIVB Club World Championship. While the hosts and defending champions, Al Ahly, remain the favorites, the clinical form of the Nigeria Customs Service suggests that a major upset could be on the cards.
Customs will look to make it three wins in a row in their next fixture as they eye an early qualification for the quarter-finals.Can Nigeria Customs bring the continental trophy back to Abuja? Share your predictions in the comments below!
