NAIROBI — The 2026 Kip Keino Classic has witnessed a moment of pure athletics history. American sprint sensation **Gabby Thomas** electrified the crowd at the Nyayo National Stadium, storming to a massive World Lead of 21.89 seconds (+1.7 m/s) to claim victory in the women’s 200m. 

With this performance, Thomas becomes the first woman ever to break the 22-second barrier on Kenyan soil, cementing her status as the gold-standard favorite for the 2026 outdoor season. Despite the high altitude of Nairobi, Thomas maintained her trademark composure off the bend, powering down the home straight to shave time off the previous world-leading mark.

The race was anything but a solo run. Fellow American Cambrea Sturgis pushed Thomas to the limit, clocking a sensational Personal Best of 21.93s to take second place. Sturgis' performance also dipped under the 22-second mark, highlighting the incredible depth of American sprinting this year.
