KADUNA — The Nigerian football community has been plunged into mourning following the sudden and tragic passing of former Super Eagles striker Michael Eneramo. The powerful forward reportedly collapsed during a training session in Kaduna on the morning of Friday, April 24, 2026.
Early reports indicate that despite immediate efforts to revive him on the pitch, the 40-year-old was pronounced dead shortly after. The news has sent shockwaves through the continent, where Eneramo was revered as one of the most physically dominant strikers of his generation.
A Legendary Career
Michael Eneramo’s journey to stardom began in the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) with Lobi Stars, but it was in North Africa where he became a household name. He achieved legendary status with Tunisian giants Espérance Sportive de Tunis, where he became the club's all-time leading foreign goalscorer and a multiple-time league top scorer.
His exploits in Tunisia earned him a move to the Turkish Süper Lig, where he enjoyed successful spells with Sivasspor—becoming a fan favorite known as "The Bull"—as well as stints with Beşiktaş, Karabükspor, and İstanbul Başakşehir.
National Pride
On the international stage, Eneramo earned 10 caps for the Super Eagles between 2009 and 2011, scoring three goals. He is perhaps best remembered by Nigerian fans for his crucial equalizer against the Republic of Ireland in 2009 and his contributions during the 2010 World Cup qualifying campaign.
